Old Bergen Museum

Gamle Bergen—Old Bergen—is an Open air museum featuring a town environment from the 1800s, when Bergen was Europe’s biggest wooden city. At that time, Bergen was a distinctive city environment with closely spaced wooden buildings, busy streets, markets and alleys.

At Gamle Bergen open air museum you can experience some of this atmosphere, with houses from the eighteenth, nineteenth and twentieth centuries. What did it look like? How did people live? In the open air museum, you can find the baker’s house, the merchant’s house, the watchmaker’s house, the skipper’s house, the craftsman’s office, the official’s office, and houses used by the dentist and the barber.

There even is a public seabath inside the museum.
